The client engaged KLM to amend an existing planning permit for a proposed large warehouse development.
The objective was to accommodate surplus shipping containers generated by their nearby transport operation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the transport industry experienced a significant rise in demand for container storage—particularly for empty containers awaiting reuse or relocation.
With in-principle support from council, the proposed solution involved constructing a series of warehouses fronting Colemans Road, with the rear portion of the site allocated for container storage.
A critical condition from council was that the container storage must not be visible from the street.
Following extensive consultation, planning, and coordination with council and relevant stakeholders, the amended planning permit was successfully obtained. Construction is now nearing completion.
